Sparky the fire dog has become a staple in the community come fall of every year. In 2017 a new Sparky costume was implemented to supplement the existing remote controlled version purchased in 2009.
In 2017 the department conducted a record 226 fire prevention activities/programs. While these activities happen throughout the entire year, there is always an emphasis in timing events around Fire Prevention Week in October. From September thru November 2017, the department conducted 160 events. This three month span continues to be an extremely busy time for non-emergency activities. Scheduling, coordination, staffing, and presentation must be near perfect in order for the department’s prevention programs to continue their success.
